Kent Marine RO Unit maintenance

We have an older (2008 model year?) .  These are my notes on use and maintenance.
  •  TDS Meter.  Measure tap water, then the RO purified water.  The
  • Rejection rate.  Besides having a good TDS percentage, the rate of water being rejected as waste is a good indicator that the membrane is clogged and needs to be replaced.  If you start seeing very little RO clean water compared to gallons of waste water, it's time to change the membrane.  Also a good time to change the carbon and pre-filters.
From the Kent Marine site:
The KENT Marine full size reverse osmosis units are available with TFC or Hi-S (High Silicate removal) membranes. The units include a 1-micron sediment pre-filter and a solid carbon block pre-filter rated to remove up to 2 ppm chlorine for 3,750 gallons.

Replacement Carbon Filter:  Important because it reduces chlorine which is bad for RO membranes.

You only need to open the membrane housing when you are going to replace the membrane. It has a screw-on cap on the right hand end of it.

Thanks Rob.  Are the Membranes enclosure sealed, or do you open it to replace the membrane only?

These are the instructions for the dual canister systems. If yours has three canisters please let me know and I can send you those instructions. The blue canister units are actually rather old units but the cartridges have never changed so you can still get replacement cartridges for the unit.

Are these available online or for download?  I need some general info about a used ro unit I bought.  I can't find the model number, but I believe it's a 50 gpd unit, similar to the one on this page, but with blue filter housings.

Also,  besides a TDS meter reading, how do I know if the unit is working?

Bob,
I am not sure what membrane you have in your system. You would need to pull the membranes out, or measure the it and compare to the FilmTec Spec sheet for residential. Residential membranes are all usually standard 2.5" x 11.75".
